Kissimmee Prairie Night Sky Maternity Photographers Orlando

Jamie and Sam are great friends of ours, and we were so excited when they came to us asking for a maternity session!  We photograph these sessions frequently, but this time we were asked for something a bit different!  Jamie was inspired by our new night sky portrait sessions, and she wanted this for their session!  Photographer Steven Miller jumped at the opportunity, and took them all the way to Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park here in Florida!

This particular state park happens to be Florida’s only official Dark Sky Park, as designated by the International Dark Sky Association!  This means it’s one of the only places in the Southeastern United States to see a natural night sky, similar to what our ancestors were lucky enough to observe every night!  We had to coach Jamie and Sam beforehand, and let them know what to bring and expect during this session, including rain, water, alligators, owls, mosquitos, and of course, Florida heat and humidity!  They were still up for the adventure, so we traveled and met at this park right before sunset!  Of course, in typical Florida fashion, it rained as soon as we arrived and didn’t stop for about an hour.  We waited patiently, and once the rain stopped, we setup our campfire, grilled some dinner for everyone, and watched as the clouds began dissipating and the stars appeared!  We then took them around the park, trying as hard as we could to avoid the large puddles and flooded areas, considering the rainfall this time of year!  We have to say, Jamie and Sam were absolutely amazing, they didn’t mind the water at all, and were very patient and cooperative through this session!  We finished up around 1:30 AM, packed up our gear, and made the journey home with plenty of coffee in hand!

Adventures like this are what we are all about, and it warmed Steven’s heart to hear Jamie and Sam’s reactions when seeing the milky way so crystal clear!  We love raising awareness to the problems of light pollution and how it affects nocturnal wildlife, sleep cycles of people, and being robbed of our right to view a beautiful night sky!  Those last two silhouette images showcase Orlando’s light pollution issue from almost 100 miles away, can you believe that?!  If we can photograph sessions like this and make a difference with light pollution and night sky inspiration, we’ve done our job!!  Congratulations Jamie and Sam, thank you SO much for allowing us to take you on this adventure with us, and we can’t wait to meet your little boy soon!!
